Embracing a Sustainable Future
Embracing a Sustainable Future
At Celsa Steel UK, our commitment to sustainability and innovation enables us to produce low carbon products, helping the transition to a decarbonised economy.
Our Clean Energy initiative is an integral part of the Celsa Circular Steel Programme, designed to reduce carbon emissions and promote renewable energy usage across our operations.
What is Clean Energy?
Clean Energy refers to energy derived from renewable, zero-emissions sources such as wind, solar, and hydro power. This type of energy minimizes environmental impact, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, and supports a sustainable future.
Clean Energy at Celsa Steel UK
Renewable Sources: Wind, solar, and hydro power
Carbon Footprint Reduction: From 437 KgCO2 to 330kgCO2/t
Certification: Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGO)
Verification: Independent verification by Bureau Veritas (BV)
How Clean Energy Works
Celsa Steel UK purchases Renewable Electricity Guarantees of Origin (REGO) certificates to ensure that the electricity we consume is matched with renewable energy production. These certificates are linked to the amount of electricity consumed during our steel production process, including both the melt shop and the rolling mill operations.
Process Overview
1
Purchase of REGO Certificates
Specific to the MWh consumed during production.
2
Allocation
Certificates are tied to the tonnes of steel delivered to each project.
3
Validity
Certificates are valid from 1st April to 31st March of the following year.
4
Verification
The process is annually reviewed and independently verified by Bureau Veritas.
Essential Information
100% Renewable Energy
All REGOs purchased represent wind, solar, and hydro power.
Certificate Issuance
Certificates are issued upon the final call-off against the original order number.
Traceability
Detailed information on the renewable energy usage is provided to ensure transparency.
Availability
The availability of REGOs can fluctuate, and there is no guarantee of continuous supply throughout the year.
Celsa Circular Steel Programme
Our Circular Steel Programme aims to create a fully circular steel production process, focusing on recycling, emissions reduction, and sustainability.
